About the event

South Lamar’s authentic Spanish darling El Chipirón, Austin’s only pinxto bar, is celebrating their one-year anniversary with an all-month-long, all-night-long, Sangria y Empanadillas Happy Hour of $5 house-made empanadillas and $5 Spanish-style sangria. Available at the bar only, the celebration begins July 5th and culminates with a grand celebration fiesta on July 26th with family and friends, open to the public.

Chef Pablo will feature four kinds of empanadillas (served four per order) including pulled pork with adobo; queso de murcia al vino, mushrooms and vegetables; patata and chorizo; and veggie sofrito with garlic, onion, tomato, green and red bell peppers and mushrooms. Spanish empanadillas are folded pastries stuffed with savory or sweet fillings, and then fried.

El Chipirón’s deliciously fresh red or white sangria has cava, gin, fruit, and a combination of herbs, resulting in a refreshing summer libation. The sangria is available by the glass for $5 or the carafe for $20. El Chipirón will honor their regular happy hour of $2 off specialty cocktails, gin+tonics, $7 wines by the glass, $4 beers Tues.-Thurs. 5-7pm and Fri.-Sat. 9:30pm-11pm.

The Sangria y Empanadilla Happy Hour is available for the entire month of July, at the bar only. El Chipirón seats 23 at the bar so early arrivals are encouraged. El Chipirón’s regular pinxto-heavy menu will be available for diners wanting to linger and move to a table.

And that’s not all, Pablo’s inviting everyone to join him on July 26th for the grand fiesta. The entire restaurant will transform to a typical Spanish bar (no tables! ) for an all-night party, and diners can indulge in an array of Spanish delights including the featured house-made empanadillas, Spanish croquetas; mousse de manchego with sherry wine, tigres de mejillón, bravas, sandía, sweet gacha blanca and more. The party will last all night long from 6pm to 10pm. The cost is $38 per person and includes two drinks — red or white wine, Cava, beer or red or white sangría or non-alcoholic drinks and unlimited bites.
